Elric is an albino who is physically weak and keeps himself alive and his health shored up through many drugs and potions created through his use of sorcery. In fact, a paradoxical outcome of his investigations into herb magic and the arcane arts is that Elric becomes a powerful sorcerer able to command the lesser minions of hell itself and have them abide by his whim. His finicky patron god is the Lord of Chaos himself, Duke Arioch of Hell who demands souls as payment for his assistance (when he so chooses to give it). Elric carries the runeblade, Stormbringer, which has the ability to transfer to its owner the strength of the victims it takes. It does this through a "feeding" upon the unfortunate victim's soul, sending the soul to eternal hell and the victim's life-force into Elric. Thus, Elric discovers that with the sword, he no longer needs to rely on potions and foul tasting ingredients to sustain himself, the strength derived through the sword has transformed him into an unparalleled warrior. Unfortunately, the sword does not distinguish between friend and foe. Many have died at it's thirst including his beloved Cymoril who life ended at the end of his own blade.
